Deloraine wins Tassie’s Top Small Tourism Town Award 2025

There’s something special about Deloraine — and now all of Tasmania agrees! Our beautiful little town has just been named Tasmania’s Small Tourism Town of the Year, and we couldn’t be prouder. Next up, Deloraine will represent Tasmania at Australia’s Top Tourism Town Awards.

Deloraine sits in the heart of the Meander Valley, beside the peaceful Meander River and under the stunning Great Western Tiers, known to the Palawa people as Kooparoona Niara. It’s the kind of town that makes you want to slow down, look around, and really take it all in.

Even though it’s small (with a population under 5,000), Deloraine is full of big charm. Whether you’re exploring cool walking tracks, visiting galleries, or chatting with friendly locals, it always feels welcoming.

There’s art in shop windows, stories in the old buildings, and nature right on your doorstep. You can:

  • Meander along the river (pun intended)

  • Check out the Deloraine & Districts Folk Museum

  • Visit amazing places like Liffey Falls, “glow-worm” at Marakoopa Cave, or the Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary just a short drive away

  • Taste local goodies like truffles, fresh veggies, and cool-climate wine

  • Watch the stars light up the night sky — and of course you can visit in the first week of November for Australia’s largest working craft event.

Deloraine isn’t just about pretty views and yummy food. It’s also about community. The people here make you feel at home. Local businesses, volunteers, and neighbours all worked together with the Great Western Tiers Tourism Association to create an awesome video and itinerary to show what Deloraine is all about — and it clearly worked.

A huge thank you to everyone who voted and supported the campaign. And big cheers to the people who help make Deloraine such a wonderful place — from farmers and artists to bakers and tour guides. You’ve all helped make our town a special place. But shhhh we hope not too many people find the secret!

So if you haven’t visited yet — what are you waiting for?

Deloraine is calling. Come explore, eat, walk, relax… and stay a while. Let your creative juices flow.
