French artist Anaïs Pitalier is an expert in authentic reproductions of historically important artworks from the masters such as Da Vinci and Duccio. She studied the restoration of paintings in Florence, Italy, and also restores wood sculptures and gold frames.
“I studied European techniques, mostly Italian/ French middle ages, with egg tempera, natural pigments (stones, precious stones, plants, etc) and real gold leaf as the technique was in this time,” Anaïs said.
“The main goal in restoration is to give back to artworks their first objective (religious or historic, for example) and allow them to pass through time.”
During the Tasmanian Craft Fair, Anaïs will be working with well-known Tasmanian artist Tony Smibert, who has his own gallery just outside Deloraine (Venue 6). Tony is a visiting artist researcher at Tate Gallery in London on the techniques of JMW Turner, painting reconstructions of Turner’s works for the gallery’s conservation department.
Tony and Anaïs will be demonstrating their techniques during the Craft Fair, as well as tutoring one or two Tasmanian artists during the event. There will also be some examples of Anaïs and Tony’s historic reconstructions for sale, as well as an exhibition of their works.
Tony Smibert’s gallery is Venue 6 at this year’s Tasmanian Craft Fair. See venue map for location details.
