The Tasmanian Craft Fair is the largest working display of arts and crafts in Australia.

More than 200 stallholders gather to provide demonstrations and insight into their craft and sell their wares. Following is a complete list of the 2009 stallholders to give you an insight into the wide range of arts and crafts on offer. Workshops

Glass bead blowing workshop:

Renowned Melbourne-based glass blower Pauline Delaney will host workshops throughout the Fair on glass bead making. These one-hour workshops will show you how to make two blown glass beads which you can use for jewellery, decoration or any purpose - Cost is $55 per person. 

Times: Friday to Monday in the Rotary Pavilion from 9am-12pm, and 1pm-4pm (on the hour).

Children’s glass workshop:

Unique and beautiful sea creatures will be captured in glass in children’s workshops run by local Deloraine artist Jenny Lee Hutton. Children can select a mould of their favourite creature, then use glass to fill them and have them fired in the furnace. The glass creatures will be available for pick-up the following day, or from the Artists’ Garret in Deloraine after the event. Australia Post is also providing postage for children who do not live in the area.

Half hour or hour workshops held in Rotary Pavilion from Friday to Monday 9am to noon and 1pm to 4pm (on the half hour). Cost $12 for half hour, $24 for hour workshop.

Demostrations 

Glass blowing demonstration:

World-renowned glass blower James Dodson will be conduction glass-blowing demonstrations daily 10am-5pm, with feature demonstrations at 11am and 2pm at Venue 5

Glass marble making demonstration:

The world of marbles goes far beyond the cats’ eyes and toms we know of our youth. Jan Clay and Mark Riley from The World of Marbles in Sheffield will host demonstrations on glass marble making throughout the Fair.
 

Awards

The Tasmanian Craft Fair presents a range of awards each year recognising excellence in the field of Crafts and Arts. Awards are presented at an on-site gala celebration of the Craft Fair for all stallholders on Saturday, October 31. For further details, please contact the event Director 0410 557 598.

In 2009, the following awards will be presented:
The Premier’s Award – valued at $10,000
 

Tasmanian Government; Rotary Club of Deloraine

- Awarded for the best new (previously unexhibited and less than a year old) piece of art or craft
- The award is acquisitive, i.e. upon the announcement of the winning piece it will become the property of the Rotary Club of Deloraine
- Any medium is acceptable including silver, textiles, painting, sculpture, glass, and ceramics
- The piece must be representative of the applicant’s general body of work
- Entrants are to submit three photographs of each piece to be entered
- A non-refundable $20 administration fee is payable per piece entered
- 20 pieces will be shortlisted by the judging panel
- Each shortlisted piece will be prominently displayed at the entrant’s stall for the period of the Craft Fair
- Artists can enter more than one piece (each with a $20 administration fee), but can only have one piece shortlisted
- Each piece shortlisted will be available for purchase, but the buyer can only collect it at the completion of the 2009 Craft Fair (note that before the announcement of the winner at the awards ceremony on Saturday night October 31, pieces can only be sold subject to the Rotary Club retaining the winning piece)
- Entries, with photographs, to be received by September 30.

- This award is made to the best on-site working exhibit at the Craft Fair - (there must be raw materials on-site).

- This award will be made to the display that has demonstrated significant flair throughout the duration of the Craft Fair.

First Time Exhibit Award – valued at $1000

- This award will be made to a first-time exhibitor at the Craft Fair who judges believe has displayed significant flair and talent. 

Innovative Functional Design Award – valued at $1000

Winners

Every year the Tasmanian Craft Fair recognises the skill and dedication of our top craftspeople through the Tasmanian Craft Fair Awards.

The 2009 stallholder awards were judged by Ken Lockwood, editor of Craft Arts International magazine; artist and designer Dr Gerry King; and Mrs Larissa Bartlett.
The awards were presented by Tasmanian MP Heather Butler at a ceremony this evening.

The $10,000 Premiers Award:

- was won by Kiyomi Reid (stall 107) for her one-off handcrafted handbag which uses recycled kimono fabric, leather and denim.
