Highlights
Danish Cabinet Makers:Ten cabinets all of the same basic dimensions made by ten Danes from the Danish Association of Cabinetmakers. How different could they be?
From the outside they look similarly blond-timbered - and their names all end in "skab", the Danish word for cabinet and fellowship. But open up each cabinet and similarity abruptly ends.
These cabinets were made for the tenth anniversary of the Association of Cabinetmakers in 2002. Each craftsperson has poured their individuality into cabinets of maple and walnut and sycamore and cherry and walnut. Morskab is a cabinet for motherhood, a profile of a pregnant woman on the outside - and inside, a woman's face.
Craftsman Martin Dahl's cabinet is "a tribute to the mothers of my sons". Galskab is deceptively simple outside and a maze of intricacy inside. Gal is the Danish word for crazy says its maker, Teis Dich Abrahamsen: "Mechanics and craft in one crazy combination".
Each of these cabinets will absorb and intrigue you, as will an added offering: a technically-brilliant chair containing 27 types of join. See their website for further details
Visit the Danes at the Tasmanian Craft Fair. You'll be amazed.

Featured Artist:
Weaver Jim Deghand lives in remote Jackey's Marsh, collecting leaves, bark and lichen to dye the wool he weaves into stunning rugs and wall-hangings in the richest of nature's hues.
His loom is huge and complex - just as complex as the man who moved across the world from South Dakota in the 1970's and found himself caught up in Tasmania's back-to the-land self-sufficiency movement.
The Deloraine flower-power hippies of that era have come and gone, but Jim stayed, weaving the beauty of the natural environment into his rugs.
Tasmania's State Library and the National Gallery in Canberra have his work, as does the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in Launceston Tasmania.
He says: "The act of weaving is absorbing. I like the design work, I like the repetitive patterns. I am entranced by the idea of starting with raw fleece and taking it through to the finished, woven product."

Emerging Artist:
Peter LeBatchelor's icon is Tasmania's Cradle Mountain; he never tires of representing it in the light-reflecting glass which is his medium. Since the age of 17 as an apprentice glazier in Invercargill New Zealand, he has doggedly pursued the goal of re-creating his environment in glass, fusing and slumping to create his distinctive castings.
"I live on one of the most beautiful pieces of premium real estate in Tasmania. I'm not a sea-change person - I love the forests, mountains and streams", Peter says.
"I love Cradle Mountain with its jagged, Gothic contours; it's a unique land-form that lends itself beautifully to sculpture."
