In this latest phase of my work, I have been trying to find a form of sculptural expression that is distinctive by using materials and technology in a way that is not often seen.

Steel is the only material that can be used as though one is drawing in space. One hand can hold the piece that is to be added and the other can weld the two pieces together. This method of production creates a physical freedom that does not exist with clay, marble, fiberglass, stone or wood.

If it is necessary for me to be defined with a personal style, it would be that which is motivated by a constructionist influence due to the method of production. That is using plate steel cut to shape then welded together to form the image. The original shapes of the steel retain their appearance that gives the work a mechanical feel. Implied movement is quite often the most involving aspect of the work, which is one of the reasons I use mostly steel.

When dealing in art I keep in mind that the work must sell. I do this by trying to imbue the work with a level of technical skill and polish. This, coupled with the right formal relationships give the work a desirable quality that people want to possess.

In the last 24 months, I have taken a huge step from a literal interpretation of life to an abstract form of expression. I feel I am no longer bound by the limitations of realism, but can employ it to colour my artistic intent.
This latest series has been an attempt to manifest tangibly a visual experience of what we as humans feel internally.

It has a broader conceptual scope in that the implied meaning is not confined to visual literal interpretation. This has resulted in a wider range of possible meanings for the work.
