The first thing that attracted me to Hot Glass was its history. 5000 years of people using the basic forces of nature to produce beauty. Fire from the furnace, earth in the form of sand, water quenching, and the glassblower's breath. All of these elements seduced me into the art of Hot Glass that has now become my life's passion.

At earlier times in my life, my artistic expression and practice has been through digital media during the late eighties and through the nineties. Ultimately I found this work unsatisfactory and started again.

That time in my life is reflected in my work through the use of colour. The forms that I use, primarily vessels for the moment, come from a sense of place and belonging. I call them my "Flowers from the Garden of infinite detail" and each one is hand made, one off and may never pass this way again.

My work isn't about glass, it's about light.

Glass exists not of itself, but only through an intuitive understanding of reflection and refraction. The universal nature of this experience links the maker and the viewer, with the glass as interlocutor, freeing both from the dubious dichotomy of form versus function. The glass is then capable of facilitating a broader, more valid discourse.

My use of colour and form allow a silent communication to take place using a visual language that is both figurative and technological. This reflects the ancient history of glass starting 5000 years ago up until today where glass has assumed an integral part of our technological society.

"Spirits" by Kim White

The work itself reflects life and all it encompasses, the colour, the passion, the darkness and the exuberance.

The medium is ephemeral, the narrative my work contains isn't.
