Deloraine and the Craft Fair

Deloraine, historically a rural community, set at the foothills of the Great Western Tiers, with a population of 2500 people, provides a unique experience for the visitor at Craft Fair time.  This nationally acclaimed community welcomes, entertains and caters for 30,000 people at the annual event. The Rotary Club of Deloraine is delighted to facilitate the largest and oldest working art and craft fair in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Tasmanian Craft Fair plays an increasingly significant role in the cultural and economic life of Tasmania and has the ongoing support of the Tasmanian Government. This event was judged the Meander Valley and Tasmanian Event of the Year for 2000.

The Working Theme for the 22nd Fair is:

"MOUNTAINS - MAGIC AND MYSTERY"

  • Witness the exquisite TEAPOT & TEA COSIES COLLECTION drawn from recognised Australian artists.
  • Rediscover the intrigue of a SNARER'S HUT & SETTLER'S COTTAGE from the turn of the century.
  • View the 220 quality stalls.
  • Inspect the special OUTDOORS AREA at Rotary Park that includes wood turners, blacksmiths, trout fishing and fly-casting.

Graphic Design

Each year a graphic design is selected to be used for our poster, the TCF booklet, this web site and associated marketing material. This year's design is by Courtney DUFF. Her comments on the graphic design were:

"In accordance with the theme of Mountains, Mystery and Magic I have put together this poster with several vital elements. The most prominent is the man. With an amused and mysterious smile, he adds to the mystique. Also with the sparkle within his eye and the colours of his coat he tends to lend to the feeling of magic. The swirls add a business to the feeling of the poster, like there is a bustle of action. I chose the font Book Antiqua because of the more traditional feel to it. Together the poster/cover represents a community spirit and the action of the Tasmanian Craft Fair."
