Just 30 mins approx. from Launceston and Devonport
DELORAINE, historically a rural community,
set at the foothills of the Great Western Tiers, with a population of 2500
people, provides a unique experience for the visitor at Craft Fair time.
This nationally acclaimed community welcomes, entertains and caters
for 30,000 people at the annual event.
The Rotary Club of Deloraine is delighted to facilitate the largest
and oldest working craft and cottage industry fair in the southern hemisphere.
The Tasmanian Craft Fair plays an increasingly significant role
in the cultural and economic life of Tasmania and this has been supported
by the Tasmanian Government during the past 12 months.
WHAT: 200 STALLS of
our nation’s best quality ART and CRAFT
UNDER COVER with CONTINUOUS FREE TRANSPORT between venues
“KINETIC”
The Director's theme for 2000, reflects the transition from one millennium to another, the great changes we have experienced and the constant motion that new ideas and skills bring to our focus.
“Kinetic” correlates the village atmosphere,
the varied display centres, the interaction of the contrasting artistic
mediums and provides a challenge for our Fair to keep moving with the times,
to reflect the ages from whence we come and THE VISION to where we are
going.
It signals to all, that the Tasmanian Craft Fair is not static but
moving ever on to bigger and better ways of promoting the arts and crafts
of our talented people.
This Theme “KINETIC” has been embraced by our community who, under
the guidance of the Rotary Club of Deloraine, have decided to present Live
Street Theatre incorporating the International Year of Cultural
Peace. 5 local schools and 200 children are participating in a thrilling
spectacle of huge soft sculpture puppets, music, and dance.
Supported by Arts Tasmania, this will be a professionally choreographed
spectacular street theatre over the course of the 4 days of the fair.
THE TASMANIAN EXHIBITION has been developed by the Rotary Club of Deloraine over the last three years to help promote innovative craft arts to new and diverse audiences. Curated by Jenie Thomas of Crafts Arts International, the exhibition is an invitational showcase of acclaimed Tasmanian working artists. Patrons of the Tasmanian Craft Fair – whether members of the general public or commercial art/craft dealers – all have the opportunity to experience work from some of our most outstanding artists.
The Rotary Club of Deloraine with the assistance of the State Government took a quality selection of this exhibition to Sydney in June as The Tasmanian Collection for Display at the Contemporary Design Expo – Create 2000. This showcased the extremely high quality of our T. C. F. and was considered by the experts to be an exhibition of excellence and second to none.

WIN TV Demonstration Area
With the support of Win TV the Rotary Club of Deloraine provide an
excellent facility where patrons to the Fair can view in comfort live demonstrations
and also relayed by video for close inspection of skills by leading craftspeople
in art and craft.
* Because of problems with dust in some venues (where some Turners
have curtailed their demonstrations) Rotary has decided to establish a
Wood Turning Demonstration Area outside
* A Pottery demonstration area in operation throughout
the Fair is a favourite with many who attend the Fair
The Fashion Parade is a highlight and
is available to all Stallholders.
Here we showcase the quality garments and accessories crafted by
the artists participating in the Fair. Parades are held twice daily in
the WIN TV demonstration area of Rotary Pavilion.
EMERGING ARTISTS
TWO YOUNG TASMANIAN emerging artists have been identified for
focus at this year’s Fair.
Gemma Clements, a dynamic glass artist
from Franklin AND Peter Nielsen, a creative
wood artist from Golden Valley, in the Deloraine area.
Both these young artists are members of well known artistic families and have chosen to continue family traditions.
