Ina Crombach
Contemporary Jewellery

Aber completing a Jewellery Design and Fabrication Certificate Course at TAFE Launceston from 1991 to 1994, she began to produce work which was immediately accepted into some of Australia’s top galleries.
The decision to become a full time artist is a recent one, and reflects a desire to extend herself, both professionally and artistically. “The demand was there, and I no longer wanted to work full time on anything apart from my art. What I most want to do is create stunning pieces of jewellery – and that cannot be a part time hobby. I think I have been fortunate to have been able to dedicate myself to my art form.”
Ina’s work is aimed at both men and women, and combines gold and silver with a variety of precious and semi precious gemstones. She fabricates rings, pendants, earrings and cufflinks of her own unique design, Ina chooses not to use casting techniques, and instead each piece is hand made. Although this is a labour intensive process, she believes the result is more personal and profound. “The expression of individuality through body adornment is a timeless human practice. My jewellery is no exception”
Each piece is an outward expression of inner motivations and in particular, is intended to illustrate an ethic of self love. “When someone purchases my artwork, they are making a statement that they deserve to be adorned, and that they are comfortable with their choices.”
“It is important to create contrast and interest, so I choose the metals and gemstones that I work with very carefully.” Each piece displays an astonishing attention to detail, that enhances the clarity of the design, and maintains the interest of the viewer. “If you have to look deeply in order to explore all the details, it is far more interesting. I want my work to be something that people cherish for a lifetime.”
